Symbiosia | Real Time Data Installation

For artist Thijs Biersteker and scientist Stefano Mancuso , yfx lab was in de lead for all the technical designs. Symbiosia is a calculative data driven system that estimates the real time impact that climate change has on the nature in Paris.

This dynamic artwork serves as a real-time data installation, providing a visual narrative on climate change for several trees nestled within the renowned garden of Fondation Cartier. Exploring the interplay of the trees with visitors, their surroundings, and each other, the project utilizes a set of 12 sensors. These sensors systematically capture variations in the trees' photosynthesis, air quality, and chemical air compounds. The resulting data is transformed into a compelling real-time visualization, creatively resembling the intricate patterns of tree rings.
